We’re here to help get your off-road vehicle modified for legal on-road use. First, check that your vehicle has been equipped with the necessary gear. The equipment checklist follows.
These are the equipment standards set by Washington State:
☐ Headlights
☐ Tail lights
☐ Brake light
☐ Reflectors
☐ Turn signals
☐ Rear view mirror (2 for UTVs; see law details here.)
☐ Windshield or goggles/ glasses / face shield
☐ Horn
☐ Spark arrester / muffling device
☐ Seat belts (for UTVs)
Once these requirements are met, you are ready to prepare for inspection as required by the state.
For this step, bring your machine in to us or another licensed dealer. Here at Don Johnson Sales, you can contact us by clicking here to make an appointment, or just call ahead for an estimate of how soon we can complete your inspection. We will verify that your ATV or side by side has all the required equipment installed. We’ll then sign off on the vehicle and give you a completed form and receipt for the DOL.
When you visit the Department of Licensing to re-title your ORV, you will need to show proof of liability insurance. You will also need to present your vehicle’s title. If your vehicle is financed, the title is at the bank. Contact the bank to ask about completing this step.

To complete the process, take your inspection form, vehicle title and proof of liability insurance to the DOL. With your vehicle equipped, inspected, insured and re-titled, you are now ready to hit the approved roads!
